After serving over 11 years for his involvement in Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht made a public appearance at a US Congress session, following his release from prison in January after a presidential pardon from Trump. Ulbricht founded Silk Road in 2011 and was sentenced to life in prison without parole in 2015 for allowing illegal activities on the platform.
President Trump did not pardon Ulbricht during his term, but reports suggest Trump promised to commute the sentence to gain libertarian voter support in the 2024 election. Trump has the authority to pardon or commute sentences for federal charges, as seen in the case of former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, who is seeking a pardon after being sentenced to 25 years in prison.
