Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has signed the “Bitcoin Rights” bill, protecting crypto users. The bill safeguards self-custody, running a node, and using digital assets without fear of discrimination. It passed unanimously in both the House and Senate before being signed into law. Similar legislation was also signed into law in Oklahoma.
In Kentucky, the bill ensures the right to use digital assets and self-custody wallets, and prohibits local zoning changes that discriminate against crypto mining. It also provides guidelines for running a crypto node and excludes crypto mining from money transmitter license requirements. The bill in Oklahoma, known as the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Act, has passed the State House of Representatives.
Oklahoma’s Bitcoin reserve bill must now pass through the Senate before potentially being signed into law by the governor. If passed, residents could receive salaries in Bitcoin. Arizona remains in the lead for strategic digital asset reserve bills. Missouri is also evaluating a Bitcoin reserve bill. Republicans dominate the Oklahoma Senate, increasing the bill’s chances of passing.
