Kia Corp plans to produce hybrid vehicles at Hyundai’s new U.S. factory in mid-2026 to meet demand, CEO reveals. Hyundai’s all-electric car factory in Georgia will now also produce hybrid cars amid cooling electric car demand and threats to EV subsidies. Kia vehicles to make up 40% of production at the Georgia facility. Hyundai aims to increase factory’s annual production capacity to 500,000 vehicles from 300,000, boosting combined U.S. production capacity to 1.2 million vehicles per year. $21 billion investments announced by Trump and Hyundai chairman at White House. Trump imposes 25% import tariffs on cars and auto parts, potentially impacting Asian automakers like Hyundai and Kia. South Korea is the world’s second-largest exporter of vehicles to the U.S. after Mexico, followed by Japan. Kia currently produces most of its hybrid cars in South Korea, including the Sportage hybrid crossover. New U.S. factory to help Kia reach goal of boosting U.S. sales to 1.25 million vehicles per year from 850,000.
