The Malaysia stock market has been on a five-session losing streak, falling over 5% with the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index hovering below 1,485 points. However, a positive global outlook may halt the decline on Thursday as European markets rose and U.S. markets closed mixed.
On Wednesday, the KLCI dropped 2.32% due to losses in financial and construction sectors, while industrials and plantations were mixed. Various active stocks saw fluctuations, with some gaining and others losing on the day.
Wall Street ended mixed on Wednesday, with the Dow down, NASDAQ up, and S&P 500 gaining. The Labor Department report showed slightly lower than expected consumer price increases in the U.S., leading to optimism about future interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.
Oil prices rose on Wednesday after U.S. crude oil inventories increased less than expected last week, with West Texas Intermediate Crude oil futures closing at $67.68 a barrel.
