Microsoft warns of new malware targeting crypto wallets, leading to rise in professionalized crypto crime

Tech giant Microsoft has identified a new remote access trojan (RAT) targeting crypto in 20 Google Chrome cryptocurrency wallet extensions. The malware, StilachiRAT, can steal credentials, digital wallet data, and clipboard information. Microsoft discovered the malware last November and warns users to be cautious. Losses from crypto scams in February totaled nearly $1.53 billion. Blockchain security firm CertiK stated that the Bybit hack accounted for the largest portion of these losses at $1.4 billion. Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis reported $51 billion in illicit transaction volume in the past year, indicating a rise in professionalized crypto crime.
