Ocado waters down ethnic minority targets as bosses go cold on DEI

Ocado has adjusted its goal of having 10% of senior management roles filled by ethnic minorities to 2030 from 2027. This change follows a trend of companies scaling back diversity initiatives in response to a crackdown by Donald Trump in the US.
Despite the delay in hitting its diversity target, Ocado has been expanding its workforce in the US after partnering with Kroger. The company remains committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and has seen an increase in the representation of ethnic minorities in senior management.
In light of Trump’s executive order on DEI, companies like Meta, Amazon, and Walmart have started to scale back their diversity programmes. British firms such as GSK and BT have also begun watering down diversity plans, including removing DEI measures from executive bonuses.
Following concerns over financial losses, Ocado reported a pre-tax loss of £375m for its latest financial year. Despite these challenges, the company continues to prioritize diversity and inclusion as integral to its innovation and success in the technology sector.
