Global reserve currency holdings in U.S. dollars slipped in Q4 of 2024, but the percentage of actual dollars held increased, according to IMF data. Overall, reported global reserves fell to $12.36 trillion from $12.75 trillion. The dollar value rose 7.7% against peers, impacting the value of reserves in other currencies. Dollar-amount holdings in dollars edged up to 57.8%, while loonie holdings ticked up to 2.77%. Euro and sterling holdings decreased. The share of yuan and yen holdings remained stable.
