Barbados-based Tabit Insurance secures a $40m insurance facility, funded entirely in bitcoin. The move allows for real-time fund verification by regulators and auditors, a first in the industry. Insurance policies and premiums will still be in US dollars, with the capital held in bitcoin.

Tabit co-founders highlight the benefits of the development, emphasizing confidence in providing stability to partners. The company combines traditional balance sheet strength with bitcoin assets for market responsiveness. CEO Stephen Stonberg sees an opportunity to bring transparency and innovation to the insurance sector by utilizing digital assets.

Tabit operates as a segregated cell company, offering US dollar returns to bitcoin investors. It holds a Class 2 insurer license from the Barbados Financial Services Commission and provides coverage in property, casualty, retrocession, and specialty reinsurance categories. The company aims to leverage digital assets for insurance capital, marking a new direction for the industry.
