Tesla recalls over 46,000 Cybertrucks in the U.S. due to a panel defect that could detach while driving, posing a safety hazard. This marks the eighth recall for the model in 2024, affecting estimated majority of units on the road. Despite 151 warranty claims, no related crashes or injuries have been reported.

The recall adds to Tesla’s challenges, with declining stock value, competition, and CEO Elon Musk controversies. Cybertruck sales were already slowing due to production delays. The recall intensifies scrutiny on Tesla’s manufacturing quality, an issue the company previously avoided.

Tesla, leading U.S. automaker recalls last year, plans to fix the Cybertruck issue with a new trim design. The physical repair is necessary, unlike previous updates resolved through software. The updated design will be implemented in production immediately, with undelivered vehicles retrofitted before shipment.
