Tesla’s China rival Zeekr to roll out free advanced driver assistance
From CNBC: 2025-03-18 07:35:39
Chinese electric car company Zeekr is offering advanced driver-assistance capabilities for free to local customers. This technology allows cars to drive nearly autonomously between set destinations with regulatory approval. Zeekr aims to compete with Tesla’s Full Self Driving in China, following criticism of Tesla’s software pricing.
Using Nvidia chips, Zeekr’s driver-assistance system prioritizes safety with lidar technology. The system will be utilized by fellow EV brand Lynk & Co. and potentially parent company Geely’s vehicles. Sales of Nvidia’s self-driving platforms have surged, reflecting an industry shift towards driver-assistance competition in China’s electric car market.
Major lidar producer Hesai reports a significant increase in lidar shipments annually, anticipating growth in advanced driver-assistance systems. Chinese NEV giant BYD is rolling out driver-assist capabilities to over 20 car models, with plans for further upgrades. Xpeng, another Nvidia customer, has seen success with advanced driver assistance and no additional subscription fees. Nio has advertised but not charged for its driver-assistance features yet.
