US crude stockpiles fall as refining continues to rise, EIA says

U.S. crude oil inventories fell by 3.3 million barrels last week, reaching 433.6 million barrels. Refinery production increased, with refinery crude runs up by 87,000 barrels per day, and utilization rates at 87%. Gasoline stocks dropped by 1.4 million barrels, but demand, measured by product supplied, fell slightly to 8.6 million bpd.
Distillate stockpiles, including diesel and heating oil, decreased by 420,000 barrels, while jet fuel demand dropped to 1.4 million bpd, the lowest since February 2024. U.S. crude imports rose by 845,000 bpd, but Cushing, Oklahoma’s crude stocks fell by 755,000 barrels. Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose over 1% post-data.
