Minnesota Representative Tom Emmer reintroduced the CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act to prevent federal banks from using or issuing central bank digital currencies. The proposed legislation aims to protect financial privacy by prohibiting the issuance of a digital dollar or similar assets. US President Trump has already signed an executive order against a US CBDC.

Rep. Emmer stated that President Trump recognizes the risks associated with CBDCs and supports banning their development. Around 100 Republicans have backed the bill, but it’s uncertain if specific legislation will progress amid Trump’s executive orders. A crypto summit at the White House on March 7 will address US crypto policy and potential CBDC discussions.

While the US government may have halted CBDC plans, other countries are advancing. Israel unveiled a preliminary design for a digital shekel, and the European Central Bank is exploring a digital euro issuance. The global landscape for CBDCs continues to evolve, with various nations considering digital currency initiatives.
