Amazon.com is considering a $15 billion warehouse expansion plan for about 80 new logistics facilities in U.S. cities and rural areas, focusing on delivery hubs and fulfillment centers with robots, Bloomberg News reported.
The company is seeking capital partners for the project, which is still under discussion and not finalized, according to an Amazon spokesperson. Additionally, Amazon has canceled orders for products made in China and other Asian countries after U.S. tariff announcements.
China and the EU announced new trade barriers on U.S. goods in response to President Trump’s tariffs, escalating a global trade war. China raised tariffs on U.S. imports to 84% from 34%, while Trump imposed 104% tariffs on Chinese imports, with no resolution in sight.
Amazon invested heavily in retail infrastructure during the pandemic, incurring $2 billion in quarterly expenses for excess warehouse and transportation capacity. The company has shifted focus to its cloud and AI business, with over 600 U.S. fulfillment centers, delivery stations, and same-day facilities.
