Amazon infuses $40m into Indian payments arm

Amazon has invested Rs 3.5bn ($40m) in Amazon Pay India through a rights issue. This follows previous investments of Rs 3000m ($35.14m) in November 2024 and Rs 6000m ($70.3m) in June 2024. Amazon Pay ranks 8th in India’s UPI transaction volume, with a 0.6% market share. It reported a 9.22% rise in operating revenue and a 39% reduction in losses for the financial year ending in March 2024. CEO Vikas Bansal emphasized the importance of implementing MDR for UPI transactions to benefit smaller players in the payment ecosystem.
