April Kicks Off With $3.2 Billion in Outflows

In April, U.S.-listed ETFs saw $3.2 billion in outflows, led by the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) with $6.5 billion leaving. The iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT) also lost nearly $1 billion, reflecting volatility in long-term rates. Despite the redemptions, total ETF assets remained steady at $10.4 trillion.

On the flip side, the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV) pulled in $1.7 billion, and the iShares iBoxx $ High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (HYG) added $740 million, showing selective buying in riskier fixed income. Leveraged ETFs led inflows with $349.7 million, while U.S. equity ETFs saw the steepest outflows at $2.6 billion.

Overall, ETF assets remained steady at $10.4 trillion, with international fixed income seeing significant outflows of over $500 million. Despite the redemptions, there were selective inflows into riskier fixed income options, indicating a mixed sentiment among investors.
