Asian stock markets are mostly higher on Monday after a long holiday weekend, with markets in Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand closed. Lack of direct trade negotiations between US and China is weighing on sentiment. Australian market closed significantly higher on Thursday. In Japan, Nikkei 225 is down 1.24%, with SoftBank Group and Fast Retailing declining. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial, Sony, and Sumitomo Pharma are also losing. US dollar is trading lower against the yen. Singapore is up 1.3%, while China, South Korea, and Indonesia are higher. US stocks closed mixed on Thursday, with Nasdaq down 0.1% and S&P 500 up 0.1%. European stocks mostly moved lower. Crude oil prices slipped 1.7% to $63.60 a barrel.
