Bitcoiner speculates ‘massive’ bot spam briefly took down Bitcoin mailing list

From Cointelegraph. April 3, 2025 1:15 am:

Bitcoin’s key communication tool, the Bitcoin Development Mailing List, was banned by Google for containing spam, malware, or other malicious content on April 2. Bitcoin core developers were unable to interact on the platform for several hours. The ban may have been triggered by mass reporting from individuals or bots.

The issue was resolved on April 3 at 2:23 am UTC, with Google Workspace Support confirming the fix. Jack Dorsey urged Google’s CEO to investigate the ban. Despite the incident, Bitcoin mailing list moderators have no plans to move away from email communication, as the list has always been email-based.

The Bitcoin mailing list serves as a platform for Bitcoin core developers and researchers to discuss potential protocol changes. The list has been a crucial communication tool since Satoshi Nakamoto shared Bitcoin’s white paper on the Cryptography Mailing List in 2008. Moderators plan to continue using Google Groups for communication.
