Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD launched its premium Denza brand in Europe to compete with top-end German manufacturers. BYD sold over 4.2 million vehicles globally last year, with Denza accounting for 3% of sales. Denza will lead in technology for the group, with a 2.8% share of the European EV market in 2024.
Denza sales in Europe will start with the EV version of its 1,000 horsepower Z9 GT sport wagon at the end of the year, followed by a hybrid version in early 2026. The first model’s price will exceed 72,000 euros. Denza aims to be a full-liner premium brand targeting both traditional and tech-savvy customers.
Despite plans for European production in Hungary and Turkey, Denza models will still be manufactured and exported from China. The European plants are expected to have a total production capacity of 500,000 cars per year when fully operational.
