ByteDance, parent company of TikTok, is considering a major investment in a data center in Brazil at the Pecem port complex. Talks with Casa dos Ventos focus on a 300MW facility, with potential to expand to 900MW. The project could reach 1GW in total demand, supporting ByteDance’s operations in the Western Hemisphere.
Pecem’s location near submarine cables and renewable power makes it ideal for data centers. Casa dos Ventos, already involved in renewable energy, seeks grid connection for the project. Brazil’s national grid operator initially denied the request due to concerns about stability, prompting evaluation by the Mines and Energy Ministry.
Neither TikTok nor ByteDance offered immediate comments on the matter. Casa dos Ventos aims to transform Pecem into a hub for technology and energy transition, with plans for Brazil’s largest data center and green hydrogen project powered by renewable energy. The company seeks partnerships to support these initiatives.
