China’s services activity rises to three-month high, Caixin PMI shows

China’s services activity hit a three-month high in March, with the Caixin/S&P Global services PMI rising to 51.9 from 51.4 in February. Standard Chartered revised up China’s GDP growth forecast to 5.2% for Q1 due to stronger-than-expected activity in January-February.
However, U.S. President Donald Trump announced new tariffs, with Chinese imports facing a 54% levy. This threatens China’s growth momentum and strong exports, especially in the manufacturing sector.
The Caixin services survey revealed new business growth at the strongest level since December, driven by domestic demand. Business sentiment remained positive, but employment levels declined rapidly. Peking University professors called for more support for the services sector to boost consumption.
