Chinese gold ETFs April inflows surpass first quarter total, WGC says

Investment flows into Chinese gold ETFs have surpassed those for the whole first quarter, outpacing U.S.-listed funds. Gold ETFs in China increased by 29.1 metric tons in the first eleven days of April. U.S.-listed funds have lagged behind China this month with inflows of 27.8 tons. Gold is up 22% this year, reaching a record high of $3,245.42 per ounce. Tit-for-tat tariffs between the U.S. and China have driven the yuan to a 2007 low against the dollar. Global gold ETFs had the largest quarterly inflow in three years from January to March. Gold premium in China ended last week at 1% above the London benchmark. Global bullion banks were active in China last week due to the high premium.
