Citi and Houlihan Lokey top M&A financial advisors in Q1 2025

In the first quarter of 2025, Citi and Houlihan Lokey emerged as the top M&A financial advisers in the financial services sector, as per GlobalData’s latest league table. Citi led by deal value at $16.9bn, while Houlihan Lokey led by deal volume with 12 deals. Both firms showed significant improvement from Q1 2024.

GlobalData’s Aurojyoti Bose noted that Houlihan Lokey stood out with double-digit deal volume in Q1 2025, moving from 19th to the top spot. Citi’s focus on big-ticket deals, including billion-dollar and mega deals, helped it secure the top position by value in Q1 2025, up from 11th in Q1 2024.

JP Morgan closely followed Citi in deal value at $16.4bn, with Goldman Sachs at $15bn, UBS at $6.2bn, and Morgan Stanley at $5.3bn, highlighting their roles in high-value M&A transactions. Piper Sandler ranked second in deal volume with nine deals, followed by JP Morgan, UBS, and PwC with seven deals each.
