CMR Surgical secures $200M for US robot rollout

CMR Surgical closed a funding round worth over $200 million to support commercializing its Versius soft tissue system. With FDA de novo authorization for gallbladder removal surgery, the Cambridge-based company plans to focus on the U.S. market and expand globally. Versius is the second most utilized soft tissue robot globally after Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci system. The company aims to innovate and develop new products in surgical robotics. CEO Massimiliano Colella stated they are focused on market expansion opportunities. Versius has completed over 30,000 surgical cases globally in various specialties and is being studied for pediatric surgery and other applications. The funding round includes equity and debt capital from new and existing investors, including Trinity Capital.
