Crypto Exchange Kraken Now Offers Stock and ETF Trading

Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken now offers U.S. stock and ETF trading alongside digital assets. The expansion includes commission-free trading for over 11,000 listed stocks and ETFs, with plans to reach all eligible U.S. clients before expanding globally. This move challenges Wall Street firms and aligns with the trend of crypto exchanges diversifying their offerings.

Kraken’s new service allows users to manage stocks, crypto, cash, and stablecoins in one place, offering fractional trading on over half of the listed assets. With an eye towards tokenization of assets, the company aims to provide a seamless, borderless trading experience built on crypto rails.

The equity trading service is powered by Kraken Securities, a FINRA-regulated division dedicated to delivering equity trading services. This expansion follows Kraken’s recent resolution with securities regulators and their acquisition of futures trading platform NinjaTrader for $1.5 billion last month.

The timing of Kraken’s stock trading expansion aligns with shifting regulatory dynamics for crypto companies, as they continue to diversify and grow their business offerings. This move positions Kraken to compete with established platforms like Nasdaq and Robinhood, offering clients a comprehensive trading experience across various asset classes.
