Cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin is expanding into Southeast Asia, focusing on the Thai market. The exchange plans to offer digital assets and related products in Thailand. ERX Company Ltd has rebranded as KuCoin Thailand and will operate under ERX, which obtained a crypto exchange license from Thai regulators. KuCoin aims to provide tailored solutions for Thai users.
In a competitive Thai market, KuCoin joins eight other licensed companies operating as crypto exchanges. Bitkub is the largest with a daily trading volume of $70 million, while KuCoin’s global platform claims $3.8 billion in daily volume. The Thai government announced a pilot program allowing tourists to pay with Bitcoin in Phuket. Crypto trading is popular, but using crypto for payments is banned.
KuCoin is working to settle a lawsuit with the US CFTC for violating the Commodity Exchange Act. Thai regulators recently targeted foreign peer-to-peer crypto platforms to prevent scams and money laundering. While KuCoin expands in Thailand, the country remains vigilant in regulating crypto activities.
