Elevance Health Inc. reported first-quarter 2025 revenues of $48.77 billion, up 15% year-over-year, surpassing the consensus of $46.29 billion. The increase was driven by higher premium yields, acquisitions, Medicare Advantage growth, and CarelonRx product revenue, partially offset by Medicaid attrition. Benefit expense ratio was 86.4%, up 80 basis points year over year. CVS Health Corp, Humana Inc., and Elevance Health stocks dropped after UnitedHealth Group’s disappointing Q1 earnings and slashed 2025 guidance. Premiums rose 14.5% to $40.89 billion, with adjusted earnings per share reaching $11.97, up 10.8%. Operating revenue for the health benefits segment was $41.4 billion, a 11% increase driven by higher premium yields and membership growth. Total medical membership increased to 45.8 million, driven by Medicare Advantage and Commercial risk-based member growth. Operating revenue for Carelon was $16.7 billion, up 38%, due to recent acquisitions and innovative risk-based capabilities.
