Swedish company Ericsson and Chinese giant Lenovo have settled a patent licensing dispute, agreeing to a multi-year, global patent cross-license. The agreement resolves legal actions initiated across multiple jurisdictions, focusing on fair terms for 4G and 5G wireless technology patents. The financial details remain undisclosed, but impacts will be recognized in Q2 2025.

All ongoing lawsuits and administrative proceedings, including those before the US International Trade Commission, will be withdrawn as part of the settlement. Remaining patent licensing issues will be resolved through arbitration. This settlement follows a trend of high-profile technology patent settlements, such as Amazon and Nokia’s recent resolution of a global patent dispute.

In a separate development, Lenovo began production of AI servers at its Puducherry facility in India in September 2024. The company also established a new infrastructure research and development lab in Bengaluru, positioning it as one of its four principal global labs. This settlement and production expansion mark significant steps for both Ericsson and Lenovo in the technology industry.
