J.B. Hunt Transport Services exceeded first-quarter expectations with earnings per share of $1.17, beating the consensus estimate by 3 cents. Consolidated revenue was $2.92 billion, down 1% from the previous year. Operating income fell 8% due to increased costs in insurance, claims, and maintenance expenses.

The intermodal unit saw a 5% increase in revenue to $1.47 billion, with loads up 8% but revenue per load down 2%. The dedicated fleet reported a 4% revenue decline to $822 million, with average trucks in service down 5% but revenue per truck per week up 2%.

J.B. Hunt will host a call at 5 p.m. EDT on Tuesday to discuss their first-quarter results. This comes as transportation companies have seen lower earnings estimates due to the lack of expected growth in March. The company’s operating income was impacted by higher expenses, leading to a decline in profitability.
