Hong Kong stock market drops almost 360 points due to trade war concerns

The Hong Kong stock market dropped almost 360 points over two sessions, closing just below 22,850 points. Trade war concerns led by China’s retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods are expected to pressure Asian markets on Monday. The Hang Seng index fell 1.52 percent on Thursday, with losses in financial, technology, and property stocks. Wall Street also plummeted, with the Dow down 5.50 percent, NASDAQ down 5.82 percent, and S&P 500 down 5.97 percent. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell warned of larger-than-expected tariff impacts on inflation and growth. Crude oil prices hit a three-year low, dropping 7.4 percent to $62 a barrel.
