A recent study by GOBankingRates reveals that a middle-class retiree can live for 20 years in the Midwest on around $500,000, after Social Security. Minnesota is the most expensive state at $700,000, while Missouri is the cheapest at $457,000. Middle-class income ranges from $54,468 to $163,404.

The study also shows that a middle-class retiree in the Midwest would need $627,202 for a 20-year retirement with Social Security, and $1,089,360 without it. Different states have varying requirements, with Missouri being the most affordable for retirement.

Based on data from the U.S. Census and other sources, GOBankingRates analyzed each state to determine the retirement savings needed. Middle-class income is defined as two-thirds to double the national median income. The study provides valuable insights for planning a secure retirement in the Midwest.
