Leading economists are now saying that a recession in the U.S. is more likely, with Goldman Sachs increasing the odds to 35% from 20%. Economic indicators are pointing in the wrong direction, with Q1 GDP growth projected at just 0.2%. Inflation is expected to rise, with core inflation projected to reach 3.5% in 2025. Goldman Sachs has lowered its S&P 500 estimate to 6,200 and sees 25-point rate cuts in July, September, and November. While a recession is not guaranteed, the uncertain impact of tariffs is keeping the odds somewhat higher.
