Japanese trading house Mitsubishi Corp is considering investing in a $44 billion LNG project in Alaska, part of Trump’s push to boost U.S. gas exports. The company plans to carefully evaluate the project’s feasibility, including the distance to the West coast and future LNG demand in Southeast Asia. Alaskan officials expect U.S. investors to fund most of the pipeline, with Asian buyers tied to offtake from the liquefaction plant.
Mitsubishi announced a bold investment plan to invest at least $27 billion over the next three years to drive growth. The company aims to lift its net profit to $10.9 billion in the 2027/2028 financial year. Over the three-year period, Mitsubishi plans to allocate about $9.1 billion to sustaining capital expenditure and more than $27.3 billion to growth investments. Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway holds a 9.67% stake in Mitsubishi.
