Former Just Salad CFO Stefan Boyd is suing the restaurant chain for $1.2 million he claims he’s owed tied to a separation agreement, alleging he lost out after a $200 million funding round in February led to a $1 billion valuation. Just Salad contends Boyd didn’t meet terms for the payout, sparking a legal battle.
Boyd, who helped Just Salad reach unicorn status, deferred compensation into an equity plan in exchange for a future payout. After leaving the company amid a strained relationship with CEO Kenner, Boyd expected a substantial payment post-raise. However, Just Salad disputes the terms were not met as detailed in the separation agreement.
Despite Boyd’s efforts and the company’s success, Just Salad offered him only $150,000 instead of the $1.2 million he believed he was entitled to following the capital raise. Boyd is seeking $5 million in damages, alleging CEO Kenner acknowledged his entitlement to the higher amount but refuses to pay. The dispute revolves around the separation agreement and equity plan terms.
