Logistics company Jet Freight to start virtual cargo airline in India

Confity Capital Partners to invest in 10 Airbus A330 converted freighter aircraft for India airfreight market. Jet Freight Logistics will be the first Indian cargo airline to operate these planes, leasing from Confity. Elbe Flugzeugwerke will convert Airbus medium-widebody jets. India’s air cargo market growth driven by e-commerce, exports, and infrastructure projects.

Air cargo tonnage in India expected to grow 6.2% to 9.1% in the second half of the decade. Confity will modify both A330-200 and A330-300 variants, with higher capacity than Boeing 767. This move marks Confity’s first venture into the aerospace sector, aiming to cater to the growing demand for widebody freighters in India.

Confity has reserved production slots for at least 10 aircraft, with conversion work starting at EFW’s facility in Dresden, Germany. India’s strong trade ties with the US and Europe, along with improved airport infrastructure, are driving the need for widebody freighters. Trade and Transport Group estimates continued growth in air cargo tonnage in India.

Jet Freight Logistics in Mumbai will outsource flight operations to a licensed commercial airline. The A330-200 has a gross payload of 60 tons, while the A330-300 can carry up to 62 tons with a volumetric capacity of over 18,500 feet. Confity’s investment in these aircraft aims to capitalize on the growing demand for air cargo services in India.
