Macquarie to sell North America-Europe public investments business to Nomura

Macquarie Asset Management to sell its North American and European public investments business to Nomura for $A2.8bn. The business has $A285bn in assets and employs over 700 people. Nomura will collaborate with MAM on product and distribution opportunities, strengthening their partnership.

The acquisition will enhance Nomura’s investment management division, managing around $590bn in client assets. Upon completion, Nomura’s Investment Management franchise is projected to manage around $770bn, with over 35% of assets managed outside Japan. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2025.

Nomura president Kentaro Okuda sees the acquisition as aligning with their growth ambitions, investing in stable, high margin businesses. The deal also aims to establish a hub in Philadelphia to expand Nomura’s international investment management business. Regulatory approvals are pending for completion.
