A movie theater chain settles an age discrimination lawsuit for $250,000 with the EEOC. The company allegedly forced a 73-year-old manager to retire and didn’t provide health insurance to workers over 65. This violates the ADEA, leading to a consent decree requiring policy changes and training to prevent age discrimination.

Under the settlement, Allen Theatres must offer health insurance to employees over 65, revise policies to prevent age discrimination, and provide training on anti-discrimination laws. EEOC stresses the importance of recognizing and preventing age-related discrimination in the workplace to protect employees’ rights and equal treatment.

EEOC filed a complaint against Allen Theatres for age discrimination, alleging the company terminated health insurance for workers over 65. The company’s president claimed forcing the manager into retirement was legal, citing “normal retirement age.” Allen Theatres did not respond to requests for comment on the settlement.
