A Nigerian court has delayed the tax evasion case against Binance until April 30 to allow time for Nigeria’s tax authority to respond to the crypto exchange. Binance’s lawyer argued that court documents were improperly served to the company outside the country. FIRS sued Binance for $2 billion in back taxes and $79.5 billion in damages.

In February 2024, Nigeria arrested Binance executives on tax fraud and money laundering charges. Charges against Tigran Gambaryan were dropped in October, while Nadeem Anjarwalla escaped custody to Kenya in March 2024. Gambaryan, a US citizen, returned home in October due to deteriorating health conditions. Binance ceased naira services in March 2024, exiting the Nigerian market.
