OpenAI countersued Elon Musk, alleging harassment and seeking to stop his actions against the firm in a court case over its future structure. Musk has tried to prevent OpenAI’s transition to a for-profit model, crucial for a $40 billion fundraising round by year-end. The two will face a jury trial next spring.
Musk’s legal team referenced a rejected $97.4 billion takeover bid for OpenAI, claiming the firm failed to consider it seriously. OpenAI accused Musk of bad-faith tactics to gain control of AI innovations for personal gain. Musk’s xAI recently acquired X for $33 billion, linking its value to his AI firm.
Last year, Musk sued OpenAI and Altman for straying from their mission of developing AI for humanity. OpenAI denies the claims, stating Musk aims to slow down a competitor.
