Private jet demand declines as tariffs spook would-be buyers

The demand for commercial air travel is declining as consumer confidence drops, according to a survey by Barclays. Interest in buying business jets has fallen by 49% since March, with all but one metric in the survey showing a decline. Survey respondents are concerned about the impact of tariffs on the aircraft market.

A composite score of 40 in the Barclays Business Jet Indicator survey indicates a slowing market, with manufacturers’ book-to-bill ratio lagging behind new orders. Respondents believe tariffs will have a negative impact on new and used jet demand. Pending legislation may help business jet manufacturers by extending tax cuts for equipment purchases.
