Recurrent Energy’s 127MW Bayou Galion solar project in Louisiana starts operations

Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, has started operations at the Bayou Galion Solar Project, a 127MWdc solar power plant in Louisiana, US. The project can power 20,500 homes annually and reflects Louisiana’s growing solar energy investment, reaching over $2bn by the end of 2024.

The Bayou Galion Solar facility is expected to bring significant new tax revenue to the community. Recurrent Energy CEO Ismael Guerrero highlighted the project’s economic benefits, job creation, and contribution to Louisiana’s energy infrastructure. Morehouse Economic Development CEO Kay King praised the project for diversifying the area’s power sources and strengthening the grid system.

The $160m project financing was arranged by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), with Primoris Renewables Energy handling construction using local vendors. Recurrent Energy also secured a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for the Tordesillas solar project in Spain, boasting a 300MW capacity. The Bayou Galion project marks a significant milestone for Recurrent Energy’s operations in Louisiana.
