Spirit AeroSystems’ chief engineer, Sean Black, will lead the supplier’s site in Wichita, Kansas, after Boeing completes its acquisition of Spirit this year. The deal, announced last year, includes parts of Spirit’s portfolio in Prestwick, Scotland, and Belfast, Northern Ireland. Airbus is also set to take on some of Spirit’s assets.
Boeing’s acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems is progressing, with Black set to become general manager of Boeing Wichita. Airbus is finalizing an agreement to take over production of wings for its A220 jet in Belfast. Bombardier may acquire part of Spirit’s operations in Belfast that produce parts for its private jets.
The transatlantic carve-up of Spirit AeroSystems has led to negotiations with Airbus and Bombardier over the fate of the Belfast and Prestwick plants. Boeing and Spirit Aero declined to comment, while Bombardier was not immediately reachable for comment. Boeing’s CEO Stephanie Pope said the acquisition plan is moving forward smoothly.
Black will report to Boeing’s executive vice president, Stephanie Pope, after the acquisition is complete. The deal is expected to close sometime this year. Airbus is set to take over some of Spirit’s assets, while Bombardier may acquire part of Spirit’s Belfast operations for its private jets.
