Starbucks union votes down 2% raise offer amid bargain talks

Union representatives from Starbucks in the US rejected a proposed minimum 2% yearly salary increase, with 81% of 490 barista negotiators opposing the offer. The proposal did not address healthcare benefits or provide an immediate wage increase, leading to the decision. Starbucks workers in the US currently earn an average hourly wage of over $19, totaling around $30 per hour with benefits. Starbucks Workers United expressed dissatisfaction with the proposal, while Starbucks criticized the union for presenting incomplete contract proposals. The company remains optimistic about reaching a mutual agreement through compromise and dialogue. Additionally, Starbucks is facing allegations of sourcing coffee beans from farms engaging in slavery-like practices in Brazil, which the company denies. In February 2025, Starbucks announced plans to eliminate 1,100 corporate jobs to streamline operations and improve financial performance.
