The stock market is on the verge of showing a rare bullish signal called the Zweig Breadth Thrust Indicator, which predicts strong S&P 500 gains. The indicator measures broad stock market participation in rallies and has a perfect track record of predicting positive stock market gains in the six to twelve months following its signal. Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at Carson Group, believes that this signal could mark the beginning of a new bullish phase for stocks. The indicator is calculated by taking a 10-day moving average of advancing and declining stocks, with the current ratio standing at 61.34% as of Thursday morning. To trigger the indicator, the ratio must surge above 61.5% in 10 days or less, with the countdown clock ending on Friday.
