Truist Financial’s first-quarter profit fell due to weak investment banking and trading amid trade policy uncertainty. Market turbulence from global tariffs has CEOs cautious, delaying deals and IPOs. Investment banking and trading income dropped 15.5% to $273 million, driven by lower fees and trading income. Net interest income rose 3.8% to $3.56 billion. Adjusted profit per share was 87 cents, in line with analysts’ expectations. Truist shares have fallen 17% in 2025, lagging behind the KBW Regional Banking Index.
