The European Union will implement countermeasures against President Trump’s tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Europe, affecting various U.S. exports. These retaliatory levies will begin on April 15 and target agricultural products like rice, maize, and poultry, amounting to $23 billion in imports to the EU. The EU excluded dairy and alcoholic drinks from the tariffs after Trump’s threats. The bloc offered negotiations for zero tariffs on industrial goods, but not all EU members agree. The tariffs will be enforced in stages, starting in April and ending in December. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust saw a 2.7% increase amid the tariff news.
