Mercedes-Benz and Porsche also experienced slumps in China sales.
Volkswagen anticipates a sales boost with new electric models like ID.3 and ID.4X. At the Shanghai Auto Show, they will introduce new Audi and VW electric models, including one with a range extender. Orders for Volkswagen vehicles in Western Europe rose by 29% compared to last year. Battery-electric vehicle sales in Europe have surged despite a decline in total car sales.
Sales in the U.S. increased by 6.2%, possibly due to customers anticipating tariffs on car imports. Volkswagen’s high reliance on Mexican-made cars and European imports leaves it vulnerable to the ongoing trade war. The shift towards electric vehicles and new models is driving demand in Europe, despite overall car sales dropping.
