Environmental activists from Extinction Rebellion vandalized the iconic “Charging Bull” statue on Wall Street, spraying it with neon green paint and painting “Greed=Death” on it. The group protested the stock market’s impact on the environment on the 56th Earth Day. One protester climbed on the bull and was asked to come down by police.
The sculpture, created by Arturo DiModica in 1989, was initially placed in front of the New York Stock Exchange before being moved to its current location in Bowling Green park. The activists’ message was clear: they are against the 1% who they believe are gambling with the future and receiving bailouts for damaging the economy. The protest aimed to raise awareness about the impact of Wall Street on the environment.
