Warner Bros. Discovery is following Netflix’s lead with a new feature on its streaming service Max, called Extra Member Add-On, to crack down on password sharing outside the home. Priced at $7.99 a month, users can add an extra person who doesn’t live in the same household for their own stand-alone account. The option is limited to one add-on profile per subscription. Disney+ implemented a similar strategy last fall. Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO, JB Perrette, stated that these advancements are designed to offer subscribers greater flexibility in managing their accounts. The move to cut down on password sharing was first mentioned in December as streamers aim to boost revenue from direct-to-consumer platforms.
