The ZKsync Association recovered $5 million worth of stolen tokens from a security incident involving the airdrop distribution contract. The hacker returned almost $5.7 million to the ZKsync Security Council. No user funds were compromised. The hacker exploited ZKsync’s admin account to mint 111 million unclaimed ZK tokens.

The hacker sent $2.47 million worth of ZK tokens and $1.83 million worth of Ether to the ZKsync Security Council. Another 776 ETH worth nearly $1.4 million was also transferred. ZK and ETH values increased post-attack, resulting in a recovery exceeding the original stolen amount. ZK token price remains stable.

ZKsync Era is an Ethereum layer 2 solution with zero-knowledge rollups. It has $59 million total value locked and over $2 billion in onchain assets. The company will release a final report on the security incident. Despite the recovery, the ZK token price has not significantly increased.
