AI agents are poised to be crypto’s next major vulnerability

AI agents in crypto are using Model Context Protocol (MCP) to automate tasks and make real-time decisions. The number of AI agents in the crypto industry has surpassed 10,000 and is expected to reach 1 million in 2025. However, security firm SlowMist has identified potential attack vectors through plugins that can manipulate user behavior, leak data, and disrupt system logic.
These attack vectors target AI agents built on top of models, not the models themselves. The poisoning of agents and MCPs involves injecting malicious information during the model’s interaction phase. The threat level and privilege scope of this type of poisoning are higher than standalone AI model poisoning, according to SlowMist.
The adoption of MCP and AI agents in crypto is relatively new, with potential security vulnerabilities that could lead to private key leaks. Developers should prioritize security measures, including strict plugin verification and input sanitization, to prevent malicious injections or data poisoning. Proactive security is crucial as AI agents continue to expand in crypto infrastructure. 1. The stock market saw a significant increase today, with the S&P 500 reaching a record high of 4,224.79.
